Robert L. Alderman, Esq. is a Miami attorney. His practice is focused on counseling and educating design professionals. Originally from Syracuse, New York, he is a graduate of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University where he received his B.S. He earned his law degree, Juris Doctor, from Syracuse Law School and an MBA from Syracuse University College of Business.

While practicing law in New York City for over twenty years, he wrote monthly magazine columns for “Interior Design” and “The Designer/Specifier” on law, business and interior design. He was a member of the faculty of the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in New York City where he taught law and business for interior designers.

He has written two books on law, business, and interior design. The first was “How to Make More Money at Interior Design” ( Reed Publications) that was described as a classic for designers and was reprinted four times. The second is “How to Prosper as an Interior Designer.” (John Wiley & Sons). This book has been used as a basis for a series of distance education courses that have been approved by the State of Florida, the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).


He provided a Continuing Education Program for architects and interior designers for the State of Florida and was a licensed provider by the Board of Professional Regulation for fifteen years. His courses were based on the legal and financial aspects of interior design and architecture and were approved by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC).


He was also an AIA (American Institute of Architects) registered provider of continuing education and offered a series of courses that were registered and approved with the AIA/CES. These courses were accepted for CE credits for AIA members as well as in most states requiring mandatory continuing education.

He is a former faculty member in the School of Architecture at Florida International University (FIU) and taught courses in Professional Office Practice and Research Methods.

He has also acted as legal counsel and an expert witness in litigation and arbitration cases relating to professional practice for architects and interior designers.
